Has your run lost it’s fun? (how to fix runners knee)

If you love running and do it often you may have encountered some form of knee pain and had to take some time away from doing what you love.

If running is your favourite form of exercise as it is for 1000’s of Australians, then that can be a pretty upsetting loss of your favourite way to get fit, lose weight and feel the endorphins that come with hitting the pavement!

And yet it may the way you are hitting that pavement that is increasing your pain and decreasing your enjoyment of exercise.

When you run, every time you land you are putting up to 4 or 5 times your body weight through your knees with each stride.

If this extra weight is not distributed correctly through the whole body and you have one muscle group (generally the quadriceps for runners!) doing all the work, then over time they may pull your knee cap out of alignment and then pain and injury is often inevitable if you continue to run.

However if you simply learn to develop relaxation in the quadriceps when you land, while simultaneously improving your hamstring engagement and adaptability of alignment through the feet, ankles, knees and hips, you have the potential to eliminate knee strain and pain and get back to doing what you love!
